Selflessness

Selflessness is something that we should all strive for.  It’s about putting your own needs aside to help others.  If each of us did just one selfless thing per day, think how much of an impact we could have on others.   There are so many people in the world, even within our neighborhoods, that are in need.  Whether we go out and donate food to a hungry family, or offer support to a family going through hard times, we are making a huge impact.  In helping others, you also help yourself.  The feeling of helping someone in need is a feeling you can’t get anywhere else.

A simple way that you can make a difference is by working with Pan de Vida, a local Queen Creek charity.  It is a simple act that doesn’t take much time or money, but has a huge impact on these families.  Every three months, Song of Life teams with the charity and collects canned and non-perishable food for food boxes that are donated to families in need.   This Sunday is the quarterly collection for our Food Box Ministry, so please bring into church any canned or non-perishable food items you are able to donate.  Also, during the time between services, starting at 9:30, we are asking for helping hands to help box up the food to send to the families.

A small, simple act of selflessness can mean the world to someone else.  Audrey Hepburn put it well when she said, “Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, it’s at the end of your arm. As you get older, remember you have another hand: the first is to help yourself, the second is to help others.”
